DTCs

The DTCs tab contains information and functions for Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) that are relevant for the selected vehicle's network. All network related DTCs detected at the vehicle readout can be found here.

The DTCs are divided into two lists according to their status. Select list by using the following two buttons:

Confirmed
Unconfirmed

All DTCs that are related to the component selected in the ranked list are always presented on the top of the list, marked in bold. The DTCs that are not related to the selected component are shown as well but in regular font below the component related DTCs.

List of confirmed DTCs

The list of confirmed network related DTCs is pointing out detected faults that are confirmed or are likely to be confirmed by the in-vehicle DTC test. The list is ranked in descending order which means that it is always the DTC at the top of the list that is most likely the one to point out the problem. You should always start fault tracing with the first DTC in the list and work your way down.

Faults pointed out by confirmed DTCs are usually more or less lasting faults that occur during operating and ambient conditions that the customer often will be within. They are so large, prolonged and high-frequent that they are causing symptoms that the customer almost for sure will recognize, be bothered by and want to have fixed. They are normally persistent, repeating and associated with high traceability and low acceptance by the costumer. The conditions in which these faults occur and cause symptoms that the customer will notice are usually enough known to be able to repeat e.g. in a workshop prior to troubleshooting and repair. They are therefore normally easy to verify and confirm.

The DTCs in this list can have one of the following statuses, based on the latest vehicle readout:

	Confirmed	Long duration fault detected many times by the in-vehicle DTC test. These faults have been detected long enough and enough number of times in order to be regarded as permanent. The DTCs associated with these faults are therefore regarded as confirmed. These faults have been detected by a selective and accurate detection principle during stable, known and controlled conditions. The advantage of detecting faults in this robust and accurate way is that they can be considered as verified and confirmed by the in-vehicle DTC test.
	Pending	Long duration fault detected one or more times by the in-vehicle DTC test. These faults have been detected long enough but not enough number of times in order to be regarded as permanent. The DTCs associated with these faults are therefore not yet regarded as confirmed.
	Failed	Long duration fault detected one time by the in-vehicle DTC test. These faults have been detected long enough but not enough number of times in order to be regarded as permanent. The DTCs associated with these faults are therefore not regarded as confirmed.

Pending

Long duration fault detected one or more times by the in-vehicle DTC test.

These faults have been detected long enough but not enough number of times in order to be regarded as permanent. The DTCs associated with these faults are therefore not yet regarded as confirmed.

Failed

Long duration fault detected one time by the in-vehicle DTC test.

These faults have been detected long enough but not enough number of times in order to be regarded as permanent. The DTCs associated with these faults are therefore not regarded as confirmed.

The following action buttons are available below the list of DTCs:

Read All DTCs	Use this button to read all control modules in the vehicle once more and list the set DTCs with their current status.
Erase All DTCs	Use this button to erase all set DTCs in the vehicle.

Note

When erasing DTCs you will be asked to start the vehicle twice and let it idle before DTCs will be readout from all control modules once more as a final check.

List of unconfirmed DTCs

The list of unconfirmed network related DTCs is pointing out detected faults that are not confirmed by the in-vehicle DTC test. The list is ranked in descending order which means that it is always the DTC at the top of the list that is most likely the one to point out the problem. You should always start fault tracing with the first DTC in the list and work your way down.

Faults pointed out by unconfirmed DTCs are usually temporary faults that occur during operating and ambient conditions that the customer seldom will be within. They are far from so large, prolonged and high-frequent that they are causing symptoms that the customer will recognize, will be bothered by and want to have fixed. They are normally transient, sporadic and associated with low traceability and high acceptance by the customer. The conditions in which these faults occur and cause symptoms that the customer will notice are perhaps not sufficiently well known to be able to repeat e.g. in a workshop prior to troubleshooting and repair. They could therefore be difficult to verify and confirm. However, they usually do not occur randomly, so if enough knowledge about them is available they will be possible to repeat.

The DTCs in this list can only have the following status, based on the latest vehicle readout:

Please note that these faults may not have been detected in a robust and accurate way with a completely selective and precise fault detection principle during stable, known and controlled conditions. However, the advantage of also detecting faults in this way is that more fault indications can be logged and available for advanced fault tracing in VIDA.

Please note that these faults may not have been detected in a robust and accurate way with a completely selective and precise fault detection principle during stable, known and controlled conditions. However, the advantage of also detecting faults in this way is that more fault indications can be logged and available for advanced fault tracing in VIDA.

Note

DTCs that have only reached the status unconfirmed are not confirmed by the in-vehicle DTC test. As the DTCs are not confirmed they are not enough reliable in order to be used as base for an ordinary fault tracing. Unconfirmed DTCs are intended for advanced fault tracing performed by highly skilled technicians on faults that are difficult to identify and locate.
