VST (Volvo Standard Time) is historically a series of folders containing operation numbers and standard times for most common repairs work likely to take place at a workshop. The listed titles for the various operations are the basic times required for a well trained and experienced mechanic to carry out a job, assuming that all the necessary tools and equipment are available in the workshop. These standard times may change due to equipment, technicians, modified methods or other advances in the automotive industry. VST covers all vehicle models from the 200 series and onward.

The Standard Times package gives the calculated times to perform certain operations. Each VST is equal to a period of six minutes (e.g. VST 4 = 24 minutes).
