Preloading software

It is possible to preload software in order to prepare for a customer's workshop visit. Due to the size of data it will take time to download a large software product to a VIDA workstation. Therefore it is possible and recommended to download large software products in advance. The preload is recommended to be performed outside working hours in order to prevent high load on the workshop network.

Ordering and purchasing preload software

Use the normal routine for ordering and purchasing software products in VIDA. A “dummy-VIN” for the preload software is available in TIE. The preload software is free of charge. The software will not be downloaded to the VIDA workstation if the software already exists on the VIDA workstation.

After a preload VIDA will have the preloaded software locally stored. This means that when there is a need to reload/upgrade the software to a vehicle later on, the purchase for the complete software is much faster.

Transfer preloaded software to USB memory

Preloaded software needs to be transferred to a Volvo approved USB memory before it is downloaded to a vehicle. This is done in the following way:

  1. Connect a Volvo Car Corporation approved USB memory to the VIDA workstation.

  2. Note

    Note

VIDA will only approve the USB memory that Volvo Car Corporation has developed as a special tool for this specific purpose.

  3. Select the purchased preloaded software in the Order Queue and click the Transfer to USB memory button.

  4. Note

    Note

More than one USB memory may be needed depending on the storage capacity and the file size.

    ð

The file transfer process is shown in a progress bar.

  5. The transfer is completed when the message Transfer to USB memory complete. is displayed. Click the Revoke button to remove the preloaded software from the Order Queue.

If there is a need to download the software to a vehicle by using another VIDA workstation, connect the USB memory with the preloaded software product to the other VIDA workstation. This will prevent a new transfer of the large software.
